Small wheel turning by the fire and rod. Big wheel turning by the grace of God. Every time that wheel turn round. Bound to cover just a little more ground....what are your favs!

A little late on this, and not really to promote the quality of the music, just the experience.

I’m fairly sure, with my muddled memories, that this was at Lake Placid 10/17/83
Although I didn’t participate there was a chain of hand holding dancers that pretty much encircled the entire outer hall of the venue by the end of the Wheel. Fun stuff.

Love this song!

Although I don't have "favorites" because I simply haven't heard enough versions, these are the ones I have and listen to:

Playin' > The Wheel > Playin'

Playin'> Drums > The Wheel > Truckin' > TOO > Wharf Rat > Sugar Mags

ALSO, thanks for the suggestion of the 81 Wheel... that outro jam is beautiful!

I know at least one Head who owns his own 18 wheeler and lives on the road. It was time to get a real job; when the Grateful Dead disbanded in 1995.

I haven't seen him for awhile until last Monday. He dropped by, after making one of his rare deliveries to northern Kalifornia. We'll see him again during his Turkey Day weekend break in November...

it's funny I always liked the intro to that one. It's like perfection to me although the outer jam is the fun stuff for sure.
